HIGHLIGHTS OF MORE THAN 100 YEARS OF COMPANY HISTORY

 

1906

On 1 July 1906 Adolf Schmidt founded Adolf Schmidt Metallwaren- und Holzschraubfabrik and opened up shop with a handful of employees at the company headquarters at Adlerstraße 9 in Wuppertal. The company's first products included all types of metal goods, all types of wood screws, and chains and fittings.

1938

The company moved to the newly build facility at Auf dem Scheidt 5 in Wuppertal Varresbeck in 1938.

1951

After the death of Adolf Schmidt in 1951 the business originally founded as an individual company was converted to a partnership and operated by his wife Marie and son Kurt and his wife Ms Hildegard.

Like many others, the company benefited from the economic wonder of the 1950s and expanded operations to include as many as sixty employees.

1975

In 1975 Hans Schmidt, grandson of the company founder, assumed leadership together with his wife Helma Schmidt.

 

 

1989 

Since 1989 their son Stefan Schmidt has also worked for the company. The great grandson of the company founder has led the Wuppertal company together with his father, Hans Schmidt, since 1999. 

1999

The family-owned company was changed to a GmbH before the new millennium.

2000

The family-operated company has increasingly expanded in recent years. In 2000 Adolf Schmidt Metallwaren- und Holzschraubenfabrik GmbH acquired Joseph Steiler Armaturen GmbH in Cologne.

 

2001

The delivery programme of Weinreich & Vieler GmbH & Co. KG in Iserlohn was integrated in 2001.

2006

In 2006 Adolf Schmidt Metallwaren- und Holzschraubenfabrik GmbH celebrated its 100-year anniversary, making it one of Wuppertal's most successful tradition-rich companies.

2013

On 1 January 2013, Adolf Schmidt Metallwaren- und Holzschraubenfabrik GmbH acquired STEDO GmbH, the sanitary products manufacturer formerly located in Dortmund. This acquisition expanded the assortment of standard products Made in Germany and with stamped parts. An additional
